Friday Night Lunch Packing
Every Friday night at 6 p.m., Food For Thought volunteers meet at Trinity Episcopal Church (316 Adams St. in downtown Toledo) to pack lunches for our Saturday picnics. This is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities, mainly because it's a lot of fun! We welcome groups and people of all ages and abilities to help with packing lunches for Saturday distribution.
Each Saturday morning, we get to know our neighbors as we share the lunches we've packed with people throughout the downtown Toledo area. Individuals and groups accompany Food For Thought on our normal bus stop routes as we provide food, water or coffee — as well as conversation with the people we meet — sunshine or snowfall. Saturday distribution meets at 316 Adams Street (Trinity Episcopal Church) and runs from 10am-12pm.
Mobile Food Pantries
Food For Thought operates a series of mobile food pantries in the Toledo area throughout the month. Many of these pantries require additional volunteer support to operate. Our mobile food pantries provide emergency food assistance to people in need and allow them to choose from a variety of items, including fresh produce. Visit our calendar here to find our locations and e-mail our assocaite director here to see how you can help!
Food For Thought's warehouse at Lott Indutries acts a storage space for food and the hub of our mobile pantries. We are seeking long term volunteers to lend a hand in our warehouse for a couple hours a week. Be part of the action and actually touch the food that will touch our neighbors' hearts. We promise you'll have fun in a safe warehouse environment with our staff. Contact our warehouse coordinator here to learn more and schedule shifts.
Toledo Farmers' Market - Join us Saturday mornings at the Toledo Farmers' Market as we reun our reverse booth collecting donations and selling merch. We then use the donated money and tolkens to purchase fresh produce from the local vendors keeping our pantries stocked with healthy, fresh produce and supporting local farmers. Volunteers can sign up for a full Saturday or 1 hour shifts from 8am-2pm. Contact our associate director here to see how you can help!
Gleaning - Interested in helping farmers pick their 'seconds' or 'cosmetically chalenged' produce so it can be donated to Food For Thought pantries? Come get your hands dirty and your spirit filled with us! Sign up to learn about gleaning opportunities as they arise here
