Friday Night Lunch Packing
Every Friday night at 6 p.m., Food For Thought volunteers meet at Trinity Episcopal Church (316 Adams St. in downtown Toledo) to pack lunches for our Saturday picnics. This is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities, mainly because it's a lot of fun! We welcome groups and people of all ages and abilities to help with packing lunches for Saturday distribution.
Each Saturday morning, we leave from Trinity Episcopal Church to share the lunches we've packed with people throughout the downtown Toledo area. Individuals and groups accompany Food For Thought on our normal bus stop routes as we provide food, water or coffee — as well as conversation with the people we meet — sunshine or snowfall. The first route leaves at about 9:45 a.m. and the second leaves at around 11:00 a.m.
Mobile Food Pantries
Food For Thought operates a series of mobile food pantries in the Toledo area throughout the month. Many of these pantries require additional volunteer support to operate. Our mobile food pantries provide emergency food assistance to people in need and allow them to choose from a variety of items, including fresh produce. Visit our calendar here to find our locations and e-mail our volunteer coordinator here to see how you can help!
Food For Thought has several special events and campaigns each year. This season's events include:
- The2018 Chuchill Half-Marathon and Promedica 5k-To-End-Hunger on November 10th! Proceeds from the 5k registration and specific donations at check out will benefit Food For Thought. You can sign up to run here or volunteer for the event here.
- November and December holiday food distributions. Food For Thought partners with Pathway Inc. to provide 6 bags of groceries to 50 families for the holidays. We will need volunteer help to pack and deliver these groceries! Learn more abot how you can get involved by emailing our volunteer coordinator here!
